Mackenzie Park (301 I-27 Access Rd, Lubbock, TX 79415) is Lubbock's largest and most historic public park, stretching across more than 500 acres along the Yellow House Canyon on the city's northeast side. The park is home to the Prairie Dog Town, one of the few remaining protected prairie dog colonies in the country and a beloved Lubbock landmark, as well as picnic areas, a golf course, playgrounds, and the Joyland Amusement Park, a family-owned attraction that has been a Lubbock institution since 1949. School groups, church groups, family reunions, and community organizations regularly use Mackenzie Park as a group outing destination.
Charter buses and minibuses can access the park via the I-27 frontage road, with open space for bus parking near the main recreation areas.
